The extreme nature of the operations HP Helicopters performs requires safety to always be paramount. The HP team has a real world approach regarding safe operations.  As wildfires burn and production schedules apply pressure, team members consistently remind each other of the most important objective that must always be achieved: ensure everyone goes home at night.  We accomplish this while working through the day and constantly identifying, minimizing, mitigating and monitoring risk in all operations.  Our 15+ years of operating helicopters without a mishap is a record we are very proud of and we are mindful that complacency due to the lack of incidents could be perilous.

 

Our team and fleet has had zero:

 

  • accidents

  • workers’ compensation claims

  • aircraft damage

  • major injuries

  • contract defaults

  • lawsuits

  • FAA violations

 

since its inception in 2005.  We take our training, preparation, communication, mature SMS program, flight operations and maintenance very seriously.  Our goal is to be the safest tactical heavy lift operator.  Period.

HP Helicopters Safety First

We go above and beyond the basic FAA and regulatory requirements for pilot training and re-currency with our in-house pilot training program to ensure our pilots are prepared for the unexpected and don’t get complacent.  In addition to standard training, our pilots regularly go through the following course work:

 

  • Flying the Wires (Full course)

  • Utilities Aviation Specialists

  • Wildfire Aviation tactical training (Simulator, sand table and academics)

  • NAFA II – National Wildland Fire Training (National Aerial Firefighter Academy)

  • Congested area planning, Utility rigging and HEC courses

  • Flight Safety (Level D full motion simulator)

  • Aviation training consultants – Aviation Training Consulting, LLC in Oklahoma

The first step of safety starts in the hangar with aircraft maintenance.  Our 15,000 square foot facility has everything needed including extremely seasoned A&Ps and maintenance personnel to keep our fleet in perfect condition. Working in extreme environments requires aircraft to perform flawlessly and flight crews to operate safely at the edge of the environment and aircraft limitations. We pride ourselves on getting the job done but will never compromise the safety of people on the ground or in the air.  Flight crews attend regular flight training sessions to stay current and practice hands-on emergency procedures in the actual aircraft that they fly every day. Since our beginning in 2005, we are proud to report that our safety programs are successful, and our operations have resulted in zero safety related aircraft incidents or lost time work injuries.
